Alborz Province Water and Sewerage Company covers an area of ​​2,000 square kilometers from the southwestern slopes of the Alborz and Taleghan Mountains in the north and Meshkin Dasht-e-Hashtard in the south and west to Nazarabad.

One of the main reasons for the formation of this company, which took place on June 20, 1992, is the need to provide water supply and wastewater collection services, taking into account the geographical area and the settlement of a large population in this province. It was considered to be a big city and then a city consisting of several cities, and now it has become a metropolis and in the 2016 census became the fourth largest city in the country.

At present, the main source of water supply in the areas covered by this company is from underground aquifers and digging deep wells and about 30% of the water needs of the covered area are supplied from the surface waters of Karaj and Taleghan rivers.

Alborz Water Supply Company to the center of Karaj city has a population of about 2500,000 people, and its operational area in the form of six cities of Karaj, Nazarabad, Taleghan, Savojbolagh, Ferdis and Eshtehard, which include the cities: Karaj, Rajai Shahr, Mehrshahr, Ferdis, Kamalshahr, Mohammadshahr , Meshkin Dasht, Mahdasht, Eshtehard, Hashtgerd, the new city of Hashtgerd, Asara, Nazarabad, Taleghan, Kuhsar, Chaharbagh, Garmadreh and Tonekman are widespread. Related to the collection, disposal and treatment of wastewater, renovation of existing water and wastewater facilities and networks, and attracting the satisfaction and respect of subscribers by providing desirable services.

The pillars of this company are: General Assembly whose members include the CEO of Tehran Water and Sewerage Company, Tehran Governor's Office and the CEO of Tehran Water and Sewerage Company. The Board of Directors consists of three main members (one of whom is the CEO) and two alternate members. It is appointed for a period of two years. The managing director and the legal inspector are also considered as other pillars.

The number of subscribers of the company is 402 thousand subscribers and the total length of the distribution network is 2880 km and the transmission lines are 703 km. Currently, two water treatment plants are active in Karaj and Rajai Shahr. The number of wells supplying water to citizens is 385, whose water production, including water extracted from surface sources, is a total of 5.9 cubic meters per second.

At present, 94 tanks with a total capacity of 414 thousand cubic meters store drinking water. The company has one of the most equipped laboratories, which is also considered reliable and monitors and monitors all centers and sources of production and distribution of drinking water on a regular and daily basis.

Execution of sewerage network in 1374 in Mehrshahr region and then areas of Karaj and so far 874 km of sewerage network has been implemented and 96400 sewer branches of residential units have been connected to the sewerage network.

Also, the construction of Karaj Wastewater Treatment Plant has started since 2001 and the first half of the module was commissioned in 2007 and the second half of the second module in September 2017.

The first half module of Hashtgerd new city wastewater treatment plant was put into operation at the same time as the president's visit to Alborz province in November 1995.
